Pasture recovery workshops slated

Many pastures in Iowa were stressed in 2020 due to drought conditions or storm damage, and likely, overgrazing. Pastures require rest, fertilization, and proper management to reach optimum production. Two workshops will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, to focus in on pasture recovery in 2021.

Topics will include evaluating the current forage status to develop a plan of action, tools and techniques to provide recovery for existing pastures, renovation practices for severely damaged pastures, and grazing techniques to provide for long term production of pastures. The program is also designed for participant interaction, so participants should come with questions.

The workshops will be held at the following locations and times:

  • Greene Co. Extension Office at 104 W. Washington St. in Jefferson from 1 to 3 pm
  • Guthrie Co. Extension Office at 212 State St. in Guthrie Center from 6 to 8 pm
  • Virtually via Zoom from 6 to 8pm from Guthrie Co. workshop.

Due to COVID restrictions, preregistration is REQUIRED, and attendance is limited. Masks will be required, and social distancing will be expected.  Registration can be done by calling the respective county: 515-386-2138 (Greene County) or 641-747-2276 (Guthrie County).

This event is co-sponsored by the Greene and Guthrie County Extension districts, ISU Extension and Outreach, and the Iowa Beef Center. Persons who want more information can contact Erika Lundy, extension beef specialist, at 641-745-5902 or email at ellundy@iastate.edu .
